Lathi | Label & Pattern Design
As part of Parsons School of Design's Typography course, the class was asked to create a label design using typography as a key element. One of the project’s major parameters was to make the product stand out on the shelves. Referencing my Greek heritage, I chose to create a brand of Olive Oil called Lathi, which is the Greek word for oil. Lathi is not your Giagia’s everyday Olive Oil. Consumers can purchase Lathi with other herbs infused into the oil such as Lavender, Rosemary, Thyme and so on, making Lathi a diverse and unique Olive Oil that can’t be beat.

Sketches and shorthand on logo development and concept.
Logo Development
First putting pen to paper, the Lathi logo was drawn in its preliminary stages with a geometric typeface in mind. In researching bold and open sans serif type designs, Vortice’s symmetrical anatomy and bold features made it a perfect choice to digitally create the logo. In rendering the circular formation of Lathi, each letter was re-worked and tweaked to seamlessly fit together in the hopes to make the negative space between letters as interesting as the formation of the letters themselves.
Style Guide
The same two typefaces are used for the three different Olive Oil tins, but the color palate changes for each tin to signal to the consumer a change in ingredients.
Pattern Swatches
The pattern was inspired in part by the geometry of the logo and in part by a pairing of olives. The repetitive nature of patterns further emphasies the idea of geometric beauty, a subtle nod to Ancient Greece, with a modern flare. The cool color palate draws from the landscape of the Mediterranean and provides a playful and vibrant feel to the Lathi brand.
